The honors continued when State Representative Christopher Worrell, representing the 5th Suffolk District, presented Brown with a key to the city. The gesture was specifically awarded in recognition of the five-time NBA All-Star’s extensive work within Boston’s Black and brown communities. A visibly moved Brown reacted with surprise, later taking to social media to express his gratitude.
Reflecting on a Decade in Boston
Throughout the afternoon, Brown engaged directly with supporters, signing autographs on both Celtics and 76ers memorabilia. During a live stream on Twitch, which he broadcast for nearly two and a half hours, the forward estimated that approximately 10,000 fans attended the event. Taking the stage to address the massive turnout, he expressed his deep appreciation for the city that had been his home for ten years.
"When I got to this city, I said I'm going to go to war for this city," Brown told the crowd. "I met so many great people here. People that helped me in the community, that motivated me on my journey. People that have supported me even when I didn't support myself at times. I just want to say thank you to Boston, thank you to the city, and I love you."
While the chapter on his time in Boston has closed, the city will see him return sooner rather than later. Brown is scheduled to face his former team for the first time as a member of the 76ers on January 21, a matchup that promises to be a significant occasion for both the player and the fanbase.
