Cameron Boozer leads Grizzlies to stunning comeback win over Warriors

The Golden State Warriors suffered a dramatic late-game collapse on Friday night, surrendering a 12-point lead in the final four minutes to fall 111-108 to the Memphis Grizzlies. Despite appearing to have the game firmly in their grasp following a corner three-pointer from De'Anthony Melton with 3:47 remaining, the Warriors were unable to withstand a late surge from the visitors, who orchestrated a stunning 17-0 run to seal the result.

The momentum shift began when Stephen Curry fouled Grizzlies guard Jaylen Wells on a made three-pointer, gifting Memphis four points in a single sequence. From there, the Warriors struggled to find their rhythm, with Curry, Draymond Green, Yaxel Lendeborg, and Brandin Podziemski missing four consecutive shots. The Grizzlies capitalized on the opportunity, with Ty Jerome hitting a crucial three-pointer to cut the deficit to one, followed by a free throw from Wells that leveled the score at 106-106 with under a minute remaining.

Boozer takes charge in closing moments

Memphis rookie Cameron Boozer proved to be the difference-maker in the final seconds. After finishing the night with 25 points, 13 rebounds, and six assists, Boozer attacked the basket against Podziemski, spinning into the lane to sink a nine-foot floater that gave the Grizzlies a 108-106 lead. The Warriors' hopes of a response were effectively extinguished on the subsequent possession when Green was whistled for an illegal screen near half-court.

The call drew the ire of Warriors head coach Steve Kerr, who received a technical foul for his protests. The Grizzlies converted the resulting free throws to complete their 17-0 run, marking the second-longest fourth-quarter run by an opponent during the Kerr era. Reflecting on the sequence, Kerr described the collapse as an "avalanche" of errors, noting that the team failed to execute during the critical closing stretch.

Warriors face quick turnaround

For the Warriors, the loss serves as a difficult setback as they navigate the early stages of the season without injured starters Jimmy Butler and Moses Moody. Curry, who admitted the defeat was particularly painful, indicated he is unlikely to play in Saturday night's road game against the Phoenix Suns. Podziemski is also expected to be sidelined for the contest as he manages back soreness.

While the defeat stung, Kerr remained focused on the long-term outlook for his squad. Despite the frustration of the final minutes, the coach emphasized that the team will look to bounce back as they continue their schedule. The Grizzlies, meanwhile, will look to build on the momentum of a victory that saw their young roster overcome significant pressure in a hostile environment.
