Detroit Pistons star Jalen Duren is set to miss at least two weeks of action after sustaining a right hamstring strain during the team's recent victory against the Miami Heat.

Detroit Pistons center Jalen Duren sidelined by hamstring injury

The Detroit Pistons will be without starting center Jalen Duren for the immediate future. The franchise confirmed that the standout big man has sustained a strained right hamstring, an injury that is expected to keep him off the court for a minimum of two weeks.

The injury occurred during the opening half of Detroit’s recent matchup against the Miami Heat on Friday. While the Pistons managed to secure a win in that contest, the loss of their primary interior presence presents a significant challenge for the team as they navigate the early stages of their schedule.

Impact of the injury on Detroit's rotation

Pistons head coach J.B. Bickerstaff addressed the setback ahead of Sunday’s game against the Philadelphia 76ers, acknowledging the void left by Duren’s absence. Bickerstaff noted the difficulty of losing a player who holds such a vital role within the team’s structure, particularly early in the campaign.

“It's tough when you lose a guy that means as much to us as JD does,” Bickerstaff said. “It's tough. Tough for him. Trying to come back and get himself situated to start the year. You miss those days. It's obviously a little bit difficult for us.”

Duren’s recent performance and career trajectory

The injury comes shortly after Duren secured a significant long-term commitment from the organization. In October, the center signed a five-year, $200 million contract following a period of negotiations. His importance to the franchise was underscored by his performance last season, where he posted career-high averages of 19.5 points and 10.5 rebounds per game, while maintaining an efficient 65% shooting accuracy.

Duren’s contributions last year earned him a spot on the All-NBA third team. However, his postseason output saw a dip, as he averaged 10.2 points during a playoff run that ended in the second round for the top-seeded Pistons. Throughout his four-year NBA career, all spent in Detroit, Duren has maintained a scoring average of 13.5 points per game. The team will now look to adjust their rotation as they await his recovery over the coming fortnight.
