White’s absence comes at a critical juncture for the franchise as they prepare for the new campaign. Having signed a three-year, $74 million contract during the offseason, the guard was anticipated to anchor the backcourt following the departure of LaMelo Ball. His injury leaves a notable gap in the rotation as the coaching staff looks to finalize their plans for the regular season.
Injury setbacks impact Hornets backcourt depth
The news of White’s injury adds to the mounting fitness concerns for Charlotte, as he joins second-year guard Kon Knueppel on the sidelines. Knueppel is also unavailable for the remainder of the preseason after suffering a left hamstring strain earlier in the training camp period.
White, who was acquired by the Hornets from the Chicago Bulls in February, quickly established himself as a key contributor. He finished the previous season on a high note, most notably delivering a standout performance in the play-in victory against the Miami Heat. During that contest, he recorded 19 points and famously hit a turnaround three-pointer late in regulation to force the game into overtime.
The Hornets are scheduled to begin their preseason campaign on Tuesday night. With White and Knueppel both ruled out, the team will look to adjust their backcourt rotation before the regular season officially commences. Charlotte is set to open their regular season schedule on the road against the Brooklyn Nets on October 21.
