Kylian Mbappe Becomes Youngest Player to Reach 100 Champions League Appearances

Kylian Mbappe has etched his name into the history books of European football, becoming the youngest player to reach 100 appearances in the UEFA Champions League. The Real Madrid forward achieved the milestone at the age of 27 during his side's dramatic 4-3 victory over Roma at the Stadio Olimpico on Wednesday.

The achievement saw Mbappe surpass the previous record held by Lionel Messi, who reached the century mark at 28 years old against the same opponent in September 2015. Marking the occasion in style, the French international found the back of the net with a first-half equalizer to help steer Real Madrid to a hard-fought win.

A Night of Shifting Records in Europe

Mbappe’s milestone was not the only record to fall on a busy night of Champions League action. Manchester City’s Erling Haaland also claimed a significant piece of history during his team's 4-2 defeat to Paris Saint-Germain. By scoring twice, the Norwegian striker brought his career tally to 61 goals in just 60 appearances. At 26 years and 85 days old, Haaland became the youngest player to reach 60 goals in the competition, eclipsing Messi’s previous benchmark by a single day.

For Mbappe, the night proved doubly productive. Deployed as a center forward in Jose Mourinho’s starting XI, his goal against Roma marked his 72nd in the competition. This strike moved him past former Real Madrid icon Raul Gonzalez into fifth place on the all-time Champions League scoring list. The forward has been in fine form for the Spanish giants, having also netted the opening goal in a 2-1 victory over Inter Milan last month.

Since making his debut in the competition as a 17-year-old with Monaco in September 2016, Mbappe has consistently proven his pedigree on the continental stage. His prolific nature was highlighted last season when he finished as the Champions League’s top scorer with 15 goals. That campaign included a standout performance against Olympiacos, where he recorded the second-fastest hat trick in the history of the tournament, scoring three times in just six minutes and 42 seconds.
