During the meeting, the Executive Committee reviewed the operational plans for the 2026-27 season, particularly in light of the newly adopted club-led commercial model. The AIFF emphasized the importance of collaboration among participating clubs and the federation to ensure a successful season ahead. “The AIFF will allow additional time to Jamshedpur FC to reconsider its decision,” the federation stated in a press release following the meeting.
Jamshedpur FC's decision to exit the ISL was described as a strategic move by the Tata group, aimed at refocusing on grassroots football development. D B Sundara Ramam, Vice President of Corporate Services at Tata Steel, clarified that the club's departure is not influenced by the uncertainties surrounding the league's commercial viability. He reiterated that the decision is final and not subject to change.
Background of the Withdrawal
The club's announcement to withdraw from the ISL came on July 31, shortly after it failed to meet the deadline for the participation fee required for the upcoming season. The AIFF had initially set a deadline of July 20 for clubs to pay an administrative fee of Rs 1.1 crore, which was later extended to July 31. Despite the extension, Jamshedpur FC opted to step back from the league.
AIFF President Chaubey, who led the Executive Committee meeting, expressed hope that Jamshedpur FC might reconsider its position. The federation remains optimistic about the club's potential return to the league, emphasizing the importance of its legacy within Indian football.
