After electing to bat first, the South Africans posted a formidable total of 205/5, setting the stage for a disciplined bowling performance that ultimately dismantled the Zimbabwe chase.
The win marks a successful conclusion to the tournament for South Africa, who dominated their opponents throughout the series. Hermann powers South Africa to imposing total
Despite the absence of opener Lhuan-dre Pretorius due to a niggle, South Africa’s batting lineup remained aggressive from the outset.
The momentum continued through the middle overs as Dewald Brevis maintained the pressure on the Zimbabwe attack, scoring 32 off 23 balls with two fours and two sixes. Rubin Hermann provided a late flourish with a quick-fire 27 from 16 balls, helping push the team past the 200-run mark. For Zimbabwe, Brad Evans and Newman Nyamhuri managed to claim two wickets apiece, but they were unable to stem the flow of runs.
Bowling unit seals the victory
Facing a challenging target of 206, Zimbabwe’s chase faltered immediately. Eathan Bosch struck in the very first over, removing Ben Curran for a duck. The South African bowlers maintained relentless pressure, reducing Zimbabwe to four wickets down within the powerplay. Duan Jansen was the standout performer with the ball, claiming 3/38, while Bosch concluded with 2/22. Despite a spirited resistance from Brad Evans, who notched his maiden T20I half-century and anchored a 52-run ninth-wicket partnership with Kundai Matigimu, the task proved too great. Kwena Maphaka eventually broke the stand, and Zimbabwe were bowled out for 157 in 18 overs. South Africa now shifts its focus to a three-match ODI series against Namibia, with Fortuin set to retain the captaincy.
