Sachin Tendulkar, often hailed as one of cricket's all-time greats, has been dubbed the ‘God of Cricket’ by fans and analysts alike. However, Brett Lee, a former fast bowler for Australia, has expressed a different opinion regarding the title of the greatest cricketer. In a recent appearance on the BeerBiceps podcast, Lee distinguished between the best batsman and the best all-round cricketer, ultimately placing Jacques Kallis, the legendary South African all-rounder, at the top of his list.

While acknowledging Tendulkar's remarkable achievements as a batsman, Lee emphasized that Kallis' dual contributions with both bat and ball elevate him to a unique status in the sport. "I've always said that I think that the best batsman to ever play the game is Sachin Tendulkar. But the best cricketer is Jacques Kallis. He's got the best numbers in the world. If you look at his stats, the stats don't lie. He's incredible," Lee stated, highlighting Kallis' exceptional all-round capabilities.

Lee's respect for Kallis extends beyond statistics; it is also rooted in personal experience. The two cricketers faced each other on the field and later became teammates in the Indian Premier League (IPL), where Kallis played for the Kolkata Knight Riders from 2011 to 2014, while Lee was part of the team from 2011 to 2013. This period allowed Lee to witness Kallis' demeanor and preparation firsthand. "To be alongside as a teammate and to watch him prepare for a game, his heart rate was about 30 beats a minute before going out to bat as he was chilled out. So relaxed," Lee remarked, underscoring Kallis' calmness under pressure.

Kallis' impressive statistics further bolster Lee's argument. In Test cricket, he scored 13,289 runs at an average of 55.37, including 45 centuries, while also taking 292 wickets at an average of 32.65 and completing 200 catches. His One Day International (ODI) record is equally noteworthy, with 11,579 runs at an average of 44.36, 17 centuries, and 273 wickets at an average of 31.79.
