Qatar Overcomes Early Setbacks to Secure Chase

Qatar secured a vital four-wicket victory against Kuwait in Match 18 of the ACC Men's Premier Cup, successfully navigating a tricky chase of 234 at the YSD-UKM Cricket Oval in Bangi. After winning the toss and electing to bowl, Qatar’s disciplined approach restricted Kuwait to 233 all out in 49.5 overs, setting the stage for a measured response.

The chase began under pressure for Qatar, as they lost an early wicket with the score at just 9 runs after two overs, following the dismissal of Shahzeb Afridi. Despite the early setback, the middle order steadied the ship, ensuring the required run rate remained manageable. Imal Liyanage anchored the innings with a composed 56 off 81 balls, providing the stability needed to keep the scoreboard moving. Supported by Zubair Ali, as well as valuable contributions from Abdullah Zaheer and Mohamed Shafeeq, Qatar reached their target of 235/6 to seal the win.

Kuwait Bowled Out as Qatar Bowlers Maintain Control

Earlier in the day, Kuwait struggled to build substantial momentum against a persistent Qatar bowling attack. Ali Zaheer top-scored for Kuwait with 47 runs off 76 balls, while Nimish Lathief provided a late spark with a brisk 47 off 38 balls. However, the innings lacked the partnerships required to post a more imposing total, as the Kuwaiti lineup was bundled out with just one ball remaining in their allotted 50 overs.

Mirza Mohammed Baig was the standout performer with the ball for Qatar, returning figures of 2/46 from his 10 overs. His ability to maintain pressure throughout his spell proved instrumental in keeping Kuwait’s scoring rate in check. With the win, Qatar demonstrated composure in both facets of the game, successfully executing their plan to chase down the target after restricting their opponents to a competitive, yet chaseable, total.
