Managing the physical toll of the Chennai heat was a central component of East Zone’s strategy. Captain Ishan Kishan utilized his premier seamers in short, high-intensity bursts to maintain pressure without risking fatigue or injury. Shami, who finished with figures of 2-17 from 11 overs, set the tone early with a testing three-over opening spell that conceded only a single run. Mukesh, who claimed 2-36 from his 12 overs, emphasized that the team’s approach was built around consistency and avoiding the temptation to over-bowl on a surface that offered little margin for error.
The pair’s tactical coordination was evident as they constantly communicated regarding lengths and movement.
