Former India batter S Meghana announces retirement from all cricket formats

S Meghana, the experienced Indian top-order batter, has officially announced her retirement from all forms of cricket. The 30-year-old confirmed her decision on Friday, bringing an end to a professional career that saw her represent India on the international stage and feature prominently in the Women's Premier League (WPL).

Reflecting on her journey, Meghana expressed deep gratitude for the opportunities the sport provided. In a statement shared via social media, she described the cricket field as her second home, noting that the game instilled in her values of resilience and humility while fostering lifelong friendships. Although her time as an active player has concluded, she confirmed her intention to remain involved in the sport by mentoring emerging talent and contributing to the development of the next generation of cricketers.

A career spanning international and league cricket

Meghana’s international journey began in November 2016 when she made her T20I debut against the West Indies in Vijayawada, contributing 17 runs in her first outing. Her ODI debut followed in February 2022 against New Zealand in Queenstown. While her ODI career was brief, consisting of only three appearances, she made a significant impact during that series against the White Ferns, recording scores of 49 and 61 in consecutive matches to finish with a total of 114 runs in the format.

Across her 17 T20I appearances for India, she accumulated 258 runs at a strike rate of 102.78, reaching a half-century on one occasion. Her final international appearance for the national side occurred in October 2022. Beyond her international duties, Meghana became a familiar face in the Women's Premier League. After starting her WPL career with the Gujarat Giants, she moved to Royal Challengers Bengaluru, where she spent two seasons and was a member of the squad that secured the title in 2024. Her final competitive appearances came during the 2025 WPL season.
