Babar Azam Calls for Strategic Review Following Pakistan's Test Series Sweep by England

Pakistan captain Babar Azam has called for an honest internal assessment of his team’s strategies and selection processes following a comprehensive 3-0 Test series defeat at the hands of England. The series concluded on Saturday at Edgbaston, where England secured an eight-wicket victory to complete the sweep.

Reflecting on a challenging tour where the visitors struggled to find consistency in unfamiliar conditions, Babar emphasized that the team management, selectors, and leadership must now collaborate to identify the best path forward. The captain noted that the side needs to re-evaluate its personnel and finalize a settled playing XI that can compete effectively in foreign environments.

“I think we need to sit down and reflect on our mistakes, decide what type of playing eleven, and decide our players,” Babar stated following the defeat. He explained that the difficulty of adapting to English conditions had necessitated several changes to the squad after the first two losses, a process he described as unfortunate but reflective of the challenges faced by the touring side.

The batting effort was further bolstered by Shan Masood’s 95, Babar’s own contribution of 76, and 59 from opener Azam Awais. Although Mohammad Abbas offered a glimmer of hope by dismissing two England batters in the opening over of the final chase, the hosts ultimately proved too strong. An unbroken 128-run partnership between Joe Root, who finished unbeaten on 62, and Jordan Cox, who scored 59, steered England to victory.

The 3-0 series loss leaves Pakistan at the bottom of the World Test Championship standings, with their points percentage slipping to 14.81. As the team looks toward future assignments, Babar maintained that the focus must remain on developing young talent and refining the team's approach to suit varying international conditions.
