Porel’s inclusion in the state side follows his release on bail on September 18, after spending more than a month in custody. The cricketer had been arrested by Kolkata Police on August 11 in connection with a case involving allegations of rape and other sexual offences. The FIR, registered at the Magra Police Station on June 30, stemmed from a complaint filed by a medical student who alleged that Porel engaged in a physical relationship under the promise of marriage and threatened to circulate intimate photographs.
Throughout the legal process, Porel denied the allegations brought against him. The case involved charges under 19 sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, alongside sections of the Information Technology Act. During the proceedings at the Calcutta High Court and the Chinsurah court, authorities were directed to examine electronic devices belonging to the cricketer. Police also arrested a friend of the player and the complainant as part of the ongoing investigation.
